Fine books and prints:
Gwasg Gregynog’s presence at the 2009 National EisteddfodOnce again Gwasg Gregynog will continue the long-standing annual arrangements of arranging publicity for its work by participating as part of the University of Wales exhibition stand at the 2009 National Eisteddfod to be held at Bala (stand no. 246 -248). A small handpress will be displayed on this stand and printer Gerard O’Shea, from Gwasg Gregynog, will provide assistance to those who would like to try and print a special Gwasg Gregynog souvenir from the Eisteddfod, with their name included on it. This souvenir will feature a stanza from the well-known traditional song ‘Ffarwel i Blwy’ Llangower’.
For the first time in its history, however, the Press is also hiring one of the smaller stands located in the Exhibition Hall on the field (the pavilion of diverse commercial stands located adjoining the Welsh Books Council) specifically in order to sell its books and prints. Another well-known traditional song ‘Boneddwr Mawr o’r Bala’ will be one of the new pieces of limited edition ephemera that Gwasg Gregynog will print and sell at a modest price on the Eisteddfod field this year. Please note: some Gwasg Gregynog books will be offered for sale at a specially discounted price for the Eisteddfod week only!
Please note also that we are hosting two informal events on the Eisteddfod field this year, namely a launch of Welsh Time (a new special tribute on the occasion of Emyr Humphreys’s ninetieth birthday) on the University of Wales stand on Monday, 3 August, at 12.00 pm, in the company of Professor M. Wynn Thomas, the editor of the volume. You and your friends are invited to attend this event and to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire your volume. Light refreshments will be available.
We will also launch our new bilingual website and on-line shop, www.gwasggregynog.co.uk at the University of Wales stand on Wednesday, 5 August, at 12.00 pm, in the company of Prof Eric Sunderland, Chair, Gwasg Gregynog Board of Directors, and Nigel Callaghan, designer of the website. Light refreshments will be available and we very much hope that you and your friends will attend this event also. Gwasg Gregynog has not had a Welsh version of its website up until now. One of the special additional features to be included on the website is a bilingual list of terms used for printing, bookbinding and book publishing.
We very much look forward to seeing you on the Eisteddfod field at Bala.
